Skipper Skillen savours Wrexham challenge

AFC Liverpool Under-18s captain Joel Skillen is looking forward to the “massive opportunity” of facing Wrexham in the next round of the FA Youth Cup.

The Liverpool youngsters – coached by staff from 7 Elite Academy – sealed their place in the Second Qualifying Round with an 8-4 win over Curzon Ashton at the Marine Travel Arena.

Their reward for Saturday’s win is a home tie with AFC Wrexham, as they look to continue their march towards a place in the First Round Proper.

Skillen, who bagged a brace in the victory over Curzon Ashton, is under no illusions about the task ahead when the two sides meet in a few weeks time.

He said: “It was a good team performance against Curzon. We eased off a but towards the end, but when we needed to we did really well.

“We’ve got Wrexham next and that will be a very hard game. It’s a massive opportunity, especially now we’re playing sides like Wrexham Academy.

“We’ve go to these rounds and it’s a big chance to impress and possible get scouted, so it’s good for us all.

“We just need to keep training, keep going and try to win again when we play Wrexham.”

Details about the date and time of the tie with Wrexham will be released in due course.
