Owens to attend tournaments in USA
Premier League Academy coach Chris Owens will fly to the United States to work with goalkeepers at the 7 Elite Academy International Tournament in 2025.
The 7 Elite Academy International Tournament runs on February 6-9 at leading youth soccer venues in St George, Washington and Mesquite.
Owens, who coaches players at all age groups in the United Kingdom, will be running goalkeeping clinics in Little Valley throughout the tournament.
He will also be advising youngsters on the next steps for their careers in college, club soccer and professional academies in the UK.
A new agreement with the Las Vegas Mayors Cup International Showcase is offering free hotel accommodation and entry fees to overseas teams for the 2025 tournament.
As a result, the event will expand to include the most international players in its history, as well as out of state teams, college coaches and pro academy recruiters.
Chris said: “I always love coming to the 7 Elite Academy International Tournament and seeing the continued progress of youngsters in all age groups.
“The atmosphere is fantastic and lends itself to inspiring players to fulfil their potential. The increased presence of international teams will only add to that unique mood.
“As part of my visit in 2025, I will be running a goalkeeper coaching clinic for youngsters at selected times. The purpose is to expand on the skills they already have.
“By using some of the techniques used by Premier League Academies, I want to give players a skillset their can develop and work on in the long term.
“This is an exciting time for soccer in America and with the World Cup a few years away, the 7 Elite Academy International Tournament can make a big impact on the sport.”
Teams in the Pre Academy to Under-19 age groups can apply for a place at the 7 Elite Academy International Tournament. Registration closes on December 1st.
Nick Nield, Tournament Director, said: “Chris is a fantastic goalkeeping coach with experience of the highest levels in the UK, so it is a privilege to have him at our tournament in 2025.
“By bringing Chris’s goalkeeping skills to Utah we can create a pathway of development that could, with the right ambition, lead to college soccer and professional academy opportunities.
“We have seen a lot of overseas teams express interest in attending the 7 Elite Academy International Tournament and with Chris now coming, we expect that interest to grow even more.”
