U-18s ready for Macclesfield test
AFC Liverpool’s Under-18 players have been urged to remain focussed on their own game plan when they face Macclesfield in the FA Youth Cup on Thursday.
The Reds youngsters, who are trained and run by 7 Elite Academy as part of a Player Pathway agreement, travel to Moss Rose for a 7.30pm kick-off.
A 4-1 win over Clitheroe in the previous round earned AFC Liverpool a trip to Cheshire, where they face a Silkmen outfit that won their previous two league encounters last season.
Anthony Godfrey, 7 Elite Academy Global Director, said: “This game is another great opportunity for our players to make a name for themselves in the world’s most famous youth football competition.
“Macclesfield were a very tough side when we played them last season, but our lads gave a very account of themselves in both games.
“They’ll have a different team and will have their own strength, so it is even more important that we stick to our game plan.
“Thursday night will be another fantastic occasion for the players in a good stadium. I know they’re looking forward to the game and will be really up for it.”
The 7 Elite Academy Player Pathway includes training and educational exchange opportunities in the USA, including meeting college coaches and playing in showcase tournaments.
A number of youngsters in the AFC Liverpool line-up have travelled to the United States with 7 Elite Academy, while Josh Miles – a Player Pathway graduate – recently signed a three-year professional contract with Blackpool.
Anthony added: “Our partnership with AFC Liverpool is the perfect springboard for youngsters to find a route into professional football or college scholarships in the United States.
“Many of our games are now streamed live to college recruiters and scouts, resulting in numerous scholarship and contract offers for players.”
Chris Stirrup, Chairman of AFC Liverpool, added: “Macclesfield Under-18s have a very experienced squad, so Thursday night’s game is the kind of challenge our players should relish. I can’t wait.
“Playing in a full-time stadium, under floodlights, offers our youngsters an experience that’s only available in the FA Youth Cup.
“For players who want to get on the path to professional football, this an opportunity that needs to be grasped with both hands.”
