Star Stephen Warnock drops into 7EA UK session

Former Premier League star Stephen Warnock made a surprise appearance at 7 Elite Academy UK’s pre-season training session in the city on Wednesday night.

The defenceman – who won the UEFA Super Cup with Liverpool in 2005 – was at the session to cast his eye over preparations for 7EA’s first season in the UK.

Warnock will also pass on his experience of 16 years in professional football to youngsters in Utah at a series of coaching camps next month.

Wednesday was the second of three nights of preparations for the new campaign, which will see 7EA UK field boys’ under-12 and under-14 teams in Merseyside.

7 Elite Academy Global Technical Director Anthony Godfrey said: “We have always said that having people who have worked in the professional game attend our training sessions is a key part of our calendar.

“Stephen was delighted to work with coaches and youngsters during what is always a busy time of the year for players. Getting pre-season right is absolutely crucial.

“The boys were keen to hear all about Stephen’s experiences of domestic and international football, and especially his years with Liverpool from 2002 to 2007.

“Nobody apart from myself and a few staff knew beforehand that he was coming, so it was a very welcome surprise.

“All the players have been impressive in training so far, especially during fitness tests on day one, so this was a nice reward for them. It is going to be an exciting season.”

The former Liverpool and England star will be in the United States from September 9th for training sessions with selected players based in Salt Lake City and St. George.

More details on his visit to Utah will be released in due course.

Wayne Scholes, Chief Executive at 7 Elite Academy, said: “Building good working links with professional players is important for all of our players, as well as our staff.

“Stephen has played for some of the best teams in the Premier League, so he has the experience to help 7EA youngsters get a taste of top-flight football.

“We held a question and answer session after training had finished, and Stephen was happy to answer every question thrown at him.

“His visit to the United States in September will be another opportunity for us to develop our links with the professional game and continue improving young players across the world.”
