Seddon praises AFC youngsters after FA Youth Cup win
AFC Liverpool Under 18s manager Scott Seddon praised his side’s professional approach in their 4-0 win over Ramsbottom United in the FA Youth Cup.
The Merseyside youngsters struck three times in the first half at the Marine Travel Arena, before sealing victory after the break.
The result means AFC Liverpool travel to Runcorn Linnets in the First Round Qualifying stage later this month.
Seddon, who saw captain Sam Jones dismissed before half time for his part in a 50/50 challenge, was delighted with
his side’s performance.
He said: “I can’t praise my players enough for how they played, especially after dropping down to ten men in the first half.
“We were three-nil up at that point, but there was still a long time to go and the lads really dug in against a tough Ramsbottom side.
“To get a fourth goal in the second half really put the icing on what was a great professional game throughout the side.”
Goals from Saul Smith (2) and Cameron West gave AFC Liverpool a 3-0 advantage before the break, after which the shorthanded hosts introduced tactical changes to protect their lead.
Harry Delany was on target with a fine strike on the counter-attack in the second half – a highlight of the game that secured progress to the next round in front of over 150 fans.
Seddon added: “It was a great experience for the lads to play at the Marine Travel Arena and they responded in exactly the right way.
“I am so proud of the players and they worked incredibly hard in a very lively atmosphere.
“It was a big occasion and one they’ll remember for a very long time. Now, however, we must concentrate on our league programme.”
