Alan Moogan joins 7 Elite Academy

7 Elite Academy has appointed former Everton and Liverpool FC coach Alan Moogan as Head of UK Coaching.

Moogan, who holds a UEFA A Licence, played for England Under-19s at the European Championships in 2003, as well as Everton, Southport and AFC Telford.

He will work to develop the academy’s presence in Liverpool and across the UK, including a new permanent home on Merseyside.

7 Elite Academy already has several teams in Under-11, Under-14 and Under-16 age groups in the city, including the prestigious Junior Premier League.

And Moogan, who joined 7 Elite Academy this week, is aiming to develop further opportunities for players in football and education.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining 7 Elite Academy at such an exciting time, with more young people wanting to benefit from our Player Pathway.

“I want to use my experience, both as a player and coach, to build on the excellent work already done by staff at 7 Elite Academy.

“I’ve followed the academy from the start and the unique way how they go about their business. That really appeals to me, and any coach would want to be part of it.

“From working with some of the best Premier League academies, I can see the opportunities on offer here are just as good as any in the sport.”

The former Everton youth star, who shared a dressing room with Wayne Rooney, also spent a number of seasons working with academy youngsters at the Toffees.

7 Elite Academy Technical Director, Anthony Godfrey, is looking forward to working with Moogan.

He said: “Some very talented candidates put their names forward for the post, which is testament to excellent reputation 7 Elite Academy has in the UK

“But Alan’s experience shone through and I can’t wait to see him use his extensive knowledge to create further opportunities for our players.

“We have some very ambitious plans for grassroots football on Merseyside, so it was essential we brought someone of Alan’s calibre on board.

“Anyone who knows Alan will see how much investment and ambition we have in the UK. It is a huge statement to bring him into our setup.

“He will give me the chance to dedicate even more time to developing our academies in the United States and Africa.”

7 Elite Academy Chairman, Wayne Scholes, expects UK players and coaches to benefit greatly from the appointment.

He said: “We are continually growing on so many fronts across the world, so to have Alan join us is fantastic news.

“He has the experience of grassroots football in the UK to lift our academy to new heights and create even more world-class opportunities for young people.

“We already have some brilliant coaches in Liverpool and Alan is a big part of our future moving forwards.

“The landscape for youth football in the UK is continually changing and Alan understands how to use every opportunity for the benefit of players.”
